The much-anticipated report of the August 2022 multi-stakeholder meeting on the human rights of older people has just been published!

States, in cooperation with civil society, national human rights institutes, the United Nations and older persons, should develop and adopt a comprehensive convention on the human rights of older persons, says the report of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Such a convention should build on existing instruments. It should also address ageism, intersectional and compounded forms of discrimination and denial of rights based on older age. It should provide legal tools for older people to seek redress in cases of human rights violations. The report is on the agenda of the upcoming 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council, which begins on 27 February, and summarises the discussions and outcomes of the August 2022 multi-stakeholder meeting on the human rights of older people, in which GAROP participated.
