This week the UN Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons will present her latest thematic report to the Human Rights Council’s 60th session. The report focuses on the intersection between older persons’ right to social protection and their right to work and makes a number of recommendations around the legal and policy framework, intersectionality, ageism and age discrimination in the labour market, and social protection.
The report calls on States to support the development of the international legally binding instrument on the rights of older persons and ensure that it provides for the right to social protection of older persons, inclusive of all older persons in their full diversity.
The mandate of the UN Independent Expert is also expected to be renewed for another three year term at the 60th Human Rights Council session.
GAROP welcomes the UN Independent Expert’s report and urges the Council to renew the mandate at this session. We will present a joint statement on behalf of all our members during the Interactive Dialogue with the UN Independent Expert at the 60th Human Rights Council session this week.
