HelpAge International has just released a new report ‘Entitled to the same rights – what older women say about their rights to non-discrimination and equality, and to freedom from violence, abuse and neglect.’ The report is based on a consultation with around 250 older women in 19 countries and focuses on the rights that will be discussed in the eighth session of the UN Open-ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWG) from 5th to 7th July 2017. It looks at older women’s lived experience of these types of discrimination and the specific measures that they believe should be taken to prevent this. It also highlights the implications for the normative framework for these rights.
The report will be used by HelpAge and partners to support national campaigning and advocacy activities in next few weeks, including around World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on 15th June.
