IDOP: Virtual interagency event and side event of the 45th session of the Human Rights Council

The International Day of Older Persons, celebrated annually on October 1st, is an occasion to highlight the participation of older persons in society and raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges of ageing in today’s world with a human rights-based approach. The theme for 2020 is “Pandemics: Do They Change How We Address Age and Ageing?”

Connected to this year’s theme is preparations for the launch of the Decade of Healthy Ageing. The proposal for a Decade of Healthy Ageing was recently endorsed by the World Health Assembly on 3 August 2020 and referred to the UN Secretary General for consideration by the UNGA.

This high-level virtual event will take place on 1st October from 14:00-15:00 CET (Geneva time). It is organised by the UNFPA, the OHCHR, the WHO and the NGO Committee on Ageing Geneva.
