Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People

Established in 2011, the Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People was born out of the need to strengthen the rights and voice of older people globally. Today, GAROP is a network of over 330 members worldwide, united in our work to strengthen and promote the rights of older persons. GAROP is governed by a global Steering Group elected by our members and its work is supported by a Secretariat Coordinator.

WHO WE ARE

The mission of the Global Alliance is to support and enhance civil society’s engagement at national, regional and international levels on the need for a new international instrument on the rights of older persons

The Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People seeks a world in which older persons live free from discrimination and are able to fully enjoy their rights.

Our core values are partnership with, inclusion of, and the promotion of participation by older people in decisions that affect their lives. We respect the rights of all persons regardless of age, race, color, disability, gender, language, religion, sexual orientation, political views, national or social origin, class and birth or property status.

  • Home care support for older people and their carers during COVID-19
    15:00 -16:00
    2020.08.05

As COVID-19 continues to evolve, restrictions have been put in place to reduce the spread of this illness. However, this can result in social isolation and limited access to services for older Australians. This can have an impact on the physical and mental wellbeing of older people, their carers and families.

No matter the circumstances, the rights of older people must continue to be upheld, and we all have a role to play in supporting the older person and their carers to navigate this difficult situation and ensuring they stay safe and well.

During this webinar on Wednesday 5th August from 15:00-16:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time, the panel of experts will discuss the current challenges faced by home care recipients and their carers during COVID-19, and how social isolation and access to services can be addressed to better support the physical and mental wellbeing of older Australians living in the community.
