HRC57 advocacy-related information and guidance for NGOs
The HRC57 will take place from 9th September to 11th October 2024. NGOs must have UN ECOSOC consultative status to participate in the HRC session itself. We will also share information here about how non-ECOSOC accredited NGOs can participate and engage around the session.
Programme of Work
The Programme of Work (POW) for the HRC57 and the list of reports and resolutions are continually updated and can be found here: https://www.ohchr.org/en/hr-bodies/hrc/regular-sessions/session57/regular-session
The human rights of older persons will be discussed at two key moments during HRC57:
- In the Interactive Dialogue with the UN Independent Expert (UN IE) on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons in response to the UN IE report on legal capacity and informed consent, either on 12th September afternoon or 13th September in the morning. The Independent Expert will also present her reports on recent country visits to Moldova and Peru.
- In the General Debate in response to the report by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, which should include the report of the expert meeting on violence, abuse and neglect, either on 18th or 19th September.
GAROP’s priority is for members to reiterate our call that the HRC should respond to the General Assembly resolution 78/324 adopted (with oral amendments) on 13th August 2024 and establish an intergovernmental working group to start drafting a UN convention without delay.
The HRC57 will be publicly live streamed and stored on UN Web TV.
Join ‘SCHED‘ for free to access more up-to-the-minute information about the session proceedings plus contact details for resolutions in development: https://hrc57session.sched.com/ If you are interested in following the informal negotiations on a particular resolution, you should write to the contact person identified in SCHED to request the text of the resolution and to be kept informed about the informal negotiations.
There will also be parallel events organised by civil society organisations during the course of the session (info and flyers will be shared here when available).
