Details of the Thirteenth OEWG Session

The thirteenth session of the UN Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWG13) will take place on 3rd-6th April 2023. Official updates about the session will be shared on the official OEWG website.

Focus areas of rights

The call for written inputs was issued on 14th December 2022. Guiding questions for each focus area are available on the official OEWG website.

Inputs should be in English and of no more than 800 words per focus area. Please send inputs to ‘ageing@un.orgby 20 February 2023

The call is for Substantive inputs on the two new focus areas of the 13th session, namely:

  • The Right to Health and Access to Health Services
  • Social Inclusion

There is also a call for Substantive inputs, in the form of normative content for the development of a possible international standard on the protection of the rights of older people to:

  • Economic Security, and the
  • Contribution of older persons to sustainable development

The substantive debates at the thirteenth session will include further discussion around these focus areas.

Accreditation for NGOs

The call for applications for accreditation to the UN’s Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWG) is now open. More information is available on the official OEWG website here. The deadline is 10 February 2023.

NGO participation in the UN session

More information about how to register to attend OEWG13 in person will be posted on the official website soon.

NGO coordination meetings

GAROP is planning to work in partnership with some of our members again to organise preparation workshops for NGOs and National Human Rights Institutions as in previous years. It is likely that we will organise an in-person session in New York on 2nd April 2023 and possibly a virtual workshop during the week before the session.

This will be confirmed and more details will be posted here about this in due course.
