Details of the Thirteenth OEWG Session

The thirteenth session of the UN Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWG13) will take place on 3rd-6th April 2023. Official updates about the session will be shared on the official OEWG website.

Focus areas of rights

The call for written inputs was issued on 14th December 2022. Guiding questions for each focus area are available on the official OEWG website.

The call was for Substantive inputs on the two new focus areas of the 13th session, namely:

  • The Right to Health and Access to Health Services
  • Social Inclusion

There was also a call for Substantive inputs, in the form of normative content for the development of a possible international standard on the protection of the rights of older people to:

  • Economic Security, and the
  • Contribution of older persons to sustainable development

The substantive debates at the thirteenth session will include further discussion around these focus areas.

Accreditation for NGOs

The call for applications for accreditation to the UN’s Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWG) has now closed for this year.

NGO participation in the UN session

Pre-registration for delegates of accredited NGOs attending the 13th OEWG session has now closed.

For NGOs in need of passes: For registration and issuance of temporary grounds passes to access the United Nations building, all participants are advised to ensure the following:

  1. Please bring a government-issued photo identification (passports, state-issued driver’s license, and similar documents) to facilitate the issuance of your UN temporary grounds- pass.
  2. The registration will take place at the UN Pass and ID office located at 320 East 45th Street (between 1st and 2nd Avenue), New York, NY 10017.
  3. You are kindly advised to carry the Temporary Grounds-Pass with you at all times during the session

Registration dates and times are as follows:

  • Monday 3 April: 8am-12.30pm
  • Tuesday 4 April: 9am-12.30pm

The 13th session will take place in Conference Room 2.

Information about how to register to make oral statements in the session will be shared with NGOs at the preparation meeting on Sunday 2nd April.

NGO preparation meeting – Sunday 2nd April

GAROP is planning to work in partnership with some of our members again to organise OEWG13 preparation meetings for NGOs and National Human Rights Institutions as in previous years.

On Sunday 2nd April at 13:00-16:00 EST we will organise an in person preparation meeting in New York for NGOs and National Human Rights Institutions attending the session

As spaces are limited, please only register for this event if you are planning to attend the UN session in person. Please register by no later than Wednesday 22nd March for security purposes.
