The UN International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) is celebrated annually on the 1st October and usually focuses on a particular theme each year. This is an important campaign date for our members and many engage in national public campaign actions and focus advocacy work on older people’s rights around this date. It is an opportunity for older people to campaign for their human rights and bring their concerns and recommendations to decision-makers in their country. It also serves as a global platform to raise awareness of ageism and challenge age discrimination.
