The UN Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons has published two new reports.

The first report to the 48th Human Rights Council focuses on Ageism and Age Discrimination and covers the prevalence of ageism and age discrimination, their possible causes and manifestations and how the existing legal and policy frameworks at the international and regional levels protect against them. The second report to the 76th General Assembly focuses on older women and the intersection of ageing and gender. This report unpacks the gendered effects of ageing with a focus on the key human rights challenges and concerns of older women, including how the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated gender-based discrimination and inequalities. It sets out recommendations addressed to States in order to ensure that older women are able to exercise their human rights and live in dignity.
